I recently started watching WWE again, since I have some time off. One episode they announced that they’ll be inducting ‘The Ultimate Warrior’ in the WWE Hall of Fame. I’ve seen glimpses of him in WWE montages and the Vintage Collection show, and always felt that we was an impressive looking wrestler!
I also believed that Batista ripped off his animal act from him. I couldn’t help but wonder why he vanished of the radar and what he’s upto now. Post some research, I found an article which said that he was involved in legal wars with the WWE ever since his departure in 1996. He seemed to have buried the hatchet, enough to make multiple appearances and even be a part of the WWE 2K14 video game.
As they showed pieces of the Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Wrestlemania XXX…I finally saw him and felt that he looked a little mellow. Later on during Wrestlemania, they brought out all the Hall of Famers of 2014, in which Warrior was given the centre-stage. Even then he walked out gently appreciating the fans with his hand on his heart.
The next day on WWE Raw the man returns to the show after almost two decades, only to address the fans and thank them for keeping alive his legacy. No gimmick involved whatsoever! (Unlike the blotchy Hulk Hogan who bombed in 2/3 promotional appearances since his return)
The day after that, Ultimate Warrior collapsed and was no more.
When I heard about him passing away and then saw his addressal to the audience on a re-run of Raw… I went through mixed emotions… No, I’ve not been a loyal fan of his, yet I definitely feel for his family’s loss and hope that his soul rests in peace.
What disturbed me slightly was that his speech sounded as if it would be the last thing he’d want to say to his fans, the last thank you he’d like to convey to the people who helped make his career. And sadly, it was.
Here’s an excerpt:
‘Every man’s heart one day beats its final beat, his lungs breathe their final breath and if what that man did in his life makes the blood pulse through the body of others and makes them believe deeper in something larger than life, then his essence, his spirit will be immortalised.’
According to a report, the circumstances of his death are still under speculation, and we shall soon find out what exactly happened.
Burying the hatchet with his ex-employers, agreeing to make appearances and has been featured in WWE 2K14, addressing his fan-base straight from the heart; all of this seems like a very odd coincidence. It almost gives you the feeling that Warrior paid his dues and got everything off his mighty chest before passing away. RIP Warrior.
